MediaPlayer - Video and Audio Player

Best Chrome Extension for Media Playback: A Deep Dive into the Media Player Extension

Today, we're going to discuss one of the top chrome extensions for media playback, the Media Player. This extension is a go-to chrome music player for audio and video files, both locally and online. It aims to bring a VLC-like media playing experience using native HTML5 technology, making it an essential tool for entertainment and lifestyle .

Understanding the Media Player Extension

The Media Player extension is built on top of the well-known "video.js" project. It enhances the user experience by applying custom plug-ins. This sound booster supports media boosting, speed control, playlist media selection, fullwidth-progress bar, HTTP-streaming (M3U8), casting to remote devices, and wave surfer visual for audio files, contributing to its 4.03 aggregate rating.

Using the Media Player Extension

For local resources, simply open the interface and drop the media link to it. For remote resources, open a video page, right-click on the player and select "Open in Media Player". Plus, you can add subtitles by dropping the video and subtitle files together into the player.

Extra Features on Media Player

This extension is more than just a chrome music player or video player. It offers several additional features like video casting, taking screenshots, 2x volume-boosting, media capturing, and support for media keys even when the player is not focused, enhancing the overall online engagement.

Keyboard Controls

Media Player offers numerous keyboard controls for a seamless entertainment experience. You can toggle fullscreen mode, control the volume, seek backward or forward, shuffle playlist, toggle repeat, take screenshots, boost volume, or open network URLs all from your keyboard.

Recent Updates and User Reviews

Over time, the Media Player extension has seen numerous updates, including history support, better playlist, adjustable playback rate, and support for live stream and MKV video container. These updates have contributed to its status as one of the best chrome extensions for media.

User reviews often highlight its simplicity, lightweight nature, and power, though some mention room for improvement in terms of stability. Despite minor flaws, most users appreciate this extension and have given it high ratings.

Conclusion

The Media Player extension is undoubtedly one of the best Chrome extensions for media playback, offering a seamless experience for all your audio and video needs. Whether you're seeking an audio downloader, sound booster, music player, or video player, this extension can meet your needs.

Finally a Music Player that actually plays local files instead of trying to sign me up to some subscription service. MAC's local music player absolutely sucks, always trying to organize my music files and destroying the album integrity of my put to gather albums.

Robert (Robbie)

Great for video playback on ChromeOS Flex and or Chromebooks, which has an awful native player.

Pretty good as a basic option. It's a shame you can't create/save playlist/playlist files, where you can auto-open a set of files that auto-populate a playlist, instead of manually needing to find them on your file system each time. E.g. "Open Files, find File 1 in Folder 1, drag it into MediaPlayer, find File 2 in Folder 2, drag it into Media player, Find File 3 in Folder 3, drag it into MediaPlayer, etc", instead of "Do everything in the previous brackets once, save a file that auto-creates a list of file names and folders, drag that list into MediaPlayer the next time you open it, which auto-opens the files from those folders". Sure, it means you'd need to not move the files yourself, but it's still way better than nothing, and MediaPlayer already gives an error if you move a file while it's a currently open in a playlist anyway (the next time you try to play it).

Awesome amazing player ! Thanks so much :)

Cool. When I use Arch/Fedora/Debian with Gnome DE, the video players could not play some videos. This plugin is great solution, lightweight and well-supported.

Looks good but no apparent way to select which subtitles to load when they are included with the mkv file.

Essentially a must have media player for any Chromebook, does the equivalent of VLC on Windows, easy to add subtitles etc. I've made this my default player. Can't fault it.

Writing a review for an extension for the first time because it solved my problem!! Had problems with playing local videos in full-screen using media players (like vlc, and the default media player) in my linux system (maybe it has something to do with nvidia rtx series graphics card). Whole screen used to glitch when in full screen. But youtube videos, and streaming websites used to work perfectly fine. Got his extension and now i can watch local videos, even with subtitles in my browser, without the screen glitching. And the playback is super smooth. Thanks a lot!!

anton

It does not read AVI files

A nice lil' extension that recognizes and plays all MP3 and MP4 files flawlessly. Problems: No (apparent) way to create playlists (although one can batch-select files and it'll play 'em in order, looped or shuffled) or skip directly to the next track via swiping, kybrd shrtct or other standard means (although there is a tab showing all currently-loaded songs which users can navigate). Also: NO developer name or other info, no web presence whatsoever outside the Chrome Store. Highly sus' and for Windows users that new young malware punk PikaBot, a show-off with its robust backdoor and anti-detection skills, comes included. But hey, it's small, it works, it's free so wth. To Stephen Lipira and other users who can't find this app that's because it's a browser extension. So, look to your browser extensions and viola: There it is. Depending on your OS it'll be immediately evident or you can make it accessible/visible by pinning it or whatevs.

how do I change the casting language of a video in this media player? I am unable to do this. Otherwise this player is very good.

Robbie Smith

I can't believe how amazing this extension is. So glad I didn't give up looking for something like this.

this made my life much essay

Works like charm for most files! Sometimes doesn't play audio on .mkv files and can't play 2160p. Almost perfect!

Seko Us

Only video player I have found that works with Nvidia RTX HDR and SuperResolution, which works like magic for standard 1080p videos, also supports subtitles which is awesome, just 2 complaints: -some audio codecs are missing -subtitles setting reset to default every time, no save option.

Audio is not working like the last person was saying. dolbydigital + format. also subs are not automatically found of the mkv... need to add them manually which kinda makes this useless. i wish to use this to use the new high dynamic range option in nvidia control panel to watch video files in sdr to hdr.

audio not playing

Work like they state, but... It could be a lot more better if integration with others extentions can be added !

Ronald Ramakers

Only default Chrome OS media formats are supported. Video formats which are not supported by Chrome OS are also not supported by this plug-in. Hence, video formats such as wmv, 3gp, avi, etc. are NOT supported. So, there's no use for this plug-in.

George-Laurențiu Vasilache

Very useful, works good. I'm very happy that it has global shortcuts! :) Thank you!

Lafin Lalannges

It is a good extension, but when sharing this extension tab to google meet tab, it won't play any sound.
